I can't get to my tools. I want to email a link and there's no tools to do it, no tools to do anything. Why don't my tools and address bar follow me?
If I'm in History and find a link I want to forward, I'd like to be able to do it from that page, and not have to cut and paste. I'd like my tools to be handy so I don't have to keep running to the barn to find them. I feel disoriented, can't maneuver, and don't know what to do. I thought maybe if Youtube was more attuned to what I'm looking for that would help, but I still feel like I can't do the simple things I want to do anymore. Why can't we have our tools at the top of the page handy? Or bottom of the page? Or anyplace on the page? Why can't the icons follow me around a little more?
Chosen solution
Hi CAB4, let's see whether we can get this thread back on track.
You can paste this to the address bar and press Enter to load the contents of the Library window into a regular Firefox tab:
chrome://browser/content/places/places.xul
But even with the full UI around the list you will have the same problem:
- Email link only sends the link I just gave you
- right-clicking a history entry doesn't have the link context menu, so an Email Link feature cannot be attached there (for example, by an add-on)
So the problem isn't that you can't get menu bars above the history list in the Library window, the problem is that the history list is not designed for what you want to do. This is a specially constructed display that will someday be converted to more standard HTML, but in the short run, that doesn't help you.
So I think you definitely need to move on to Phase 2 or Plan B.
And keep in mind that lots of people love the sidebar because they hate switching among separate windows and it offers a variety of different views for their visits. Not you? Fine. You can just close it. When proposing changes to Firefox, there's no reason to create resistance by suggesting to get rid of things you consider "worse than useless." That just distracts from the point and makes people less receptive.

Open the link you want to send in the browser. Then send the link.
Hi CAB4 !
Maybe you could go to Options => Customize - there you will find 'Email Link', which you could drag to your toolbar (if that's what you want).
I know what you're saying with your 'running to the barn analogy' - but if you want all your tools withing reach, your living room would get very cluttered and before you know it you'd have a hard time finding anything. Am I making any sense ?
There is no place to drag anything on my history page. That's the problem. The one place that is crying and begging for a toolbar doesn't have one. No address bar, nothing. It would not be cluttering up the living room as you say to put an address bar/toolbar on that page, on the history page. It belongs there.
BTW, somebody did something to YouTube, or maybe I just missed it before. But now the icon of the 3 dots ... pops up beside anything on YouTube I hover over. If I click on it, I can choose from all kinds of options, to make a playlist or not play it, get it out of there, or even complain about it. I don't know if that was there before, but it's there now. Maybe somebody at Firefox created this, but it's a great feature, and if that's the case I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to whoever did that wonderful thing. I must copy this paragraph and insert it in my old postings about needing a link to have some control over my YouTube selections.
Meantime, I do rely on my history to find things, and I need a way to get my links to where I want them -- and I need a way to forward those links besides opening them up. Opening up the link makes me lose my way, forget what I'm trying to accomplish, and it's clumsy and time-consuming and extremely annoying not to have an address bar with tools on that page, a page that seems to beg for an address bar and tools as much or more than anything other page.
Before Firefox made so many changes I had a little green icon that was always displayed that I could click on and send anything anywhere. Now Firefox has provided that feature themselves, but it would be great if Firefox would put the toolbar above the history page.
That would fix things. I don't know any other way that it can be fixed.
If it's only on the History page that you want the Email Link :
You can still drag it from Customize to the title bar, where you'll also see the minimize/maximize and close buttons.
I appreciate that you have many wishes, would like to see some changes made, features added - and other users may have completely different wishes, and there's just no pleasing everyone .....
As for YouTube : unfortunately nothing that Firefox / Mozilla can do about that, as YouTube is one of Google's subsidiaries.
It's an interesting idea to share a link from the "Library" window where you can view your history and bookmarks. Here in support we can't add any new features to Firefox, and I don't think there are any add-ons to do that, but you can submit new feature suggestions here:
https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/FirefoxInput/
But until then, re-opening the page is your best bet.
To JS Scher: Your answer is helpful, yes. But I didn't dare click that for fear it would mean SOLVED. Helpful is not solved.
There is no title bar on the history page. Nothing. Just history. History is important, very useful, and I don't know why there are no tools on that page to make use of History. If there was a title bar, yeah, I'd just drag what I want into it. But there is no title bar/address bar. Even this page here has a title bar, but my history page, which is everything I do and need to be able to manipulate it -- has nothing.
Thank you for the link to the people upstairs, but I want to hash it out here first. Most likely the people upstairs are reading the stuff that goes on here, so I am happy to talk with the support forum right where I am for now.
So far I have had several issues with the new Quantum Firefox, and Firefox has always come through and fixed them (by me just bringing my grievances right here to you guys, and the guys upstairs must have been reading or somebody was passing things on to them). So even tho you don't have ability to tinker with the gears, you are able to help Firefox figure out what's wrong, which is why I'm here talking to you and not them.
I'm not even sure myself sometimes what it is that's wrong, and just talking with the support people who volunteer here helps me figure things out myself, to know what it is I need and want to be able to do what I want to do on the Internet.
I appreciate your direct and simple and helpful answer!

What history page are you talking about? Note that you can open the history in the sidebar (Ctrl+H).
Sidebar is totally useless. It comes up gray and limited and I don't use it.
History is given in the library icon provided by Mozilla. History itself is a record of all my doings and visits for an amount of time. Seems odd that there's no address bar at the top of History. If I want to send something in History to myself or someone else I have to jump through hoops to do it. Firefox has a great email link that I can't use in History because the icon isn't on that page, and there's no address bar at all on that page. Seems like Firefox could easily put that in.

I thought that the side bar would be ideal for you - you'd have your history and the address bar and could drag the Email Link to wherever you want.
The history you're talking about is useless. It's all in gray, folders. It's not set up like the real history, and can't sort. It's like a shadow and annoying and should not even be coming up because it's garbage, not helpful because you can't get full history. It's gray folders, not dated, not titled. Totally useless as far as I'm concerned, and I'd be happy if that fake shadow of a history just went away altogether.
Microsoft is making their programs so redundant and cluttered and full of bugs that even the programmers can't make any sense out of them. But those of us who use the program know what we need and want. If you could get the honchos to listen for us, be an intermediary for those of us who are struggling to do basic things we used to do so easily before everything got so uselessly redundant in some places and broken and missing in others.
If Firefox could get rid of that gray folder sidebar altogether that would be even better, because it just takes up space and it's worse than useless. I suppose if I didn't have the real history, no history at all, that it would be better than nothing. I wonder why computer programming doesn't improve, but it gets worse instead of better over time. Not to mention, it's hard to try to get used to the interface constantly changing. If these programmers would keep the basics as they are and gently introduce their new stuff ... but no. That's not what they are after. My next computer, Lord willing, will be a Mac, and no more stuff from Microsoft. Ever again.
There are address bars on every page of anything, so why can't Firefox put one on History for us?
Tools. We cannot work without tools. So where are the tools, where is the toolbox, where is the address bar? Answer: No place. It's missing. We need a toolbar on the History page.

That is enough. Support Volunteers can't make changes to Firefox , but we can help you troubleshooting your question which has been done.. Do not need that when you can find other ways : https://www.howtogeek.com/333110/how-to-customize-firefox-quantum-and-remove-the-white-space-around-the-title-bar/
To submit suggestions for new or changed features, may I suggest: Feedback: https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/FirefoxInput/ or https://discourse.mozilla.org/c/add-ons
The problem is not removing white space around the title bar. The problem is NO TITLE BAR IS THERE. And I need one.
This is my only way to let Firefox know my problems. This is a big switch Firefox is making, and if you have a better way for me to communicate my problems then great. Otherwise, this is how I do it. If you don't want to answer me or help me, then just don't answer. Stop telling me that I am out of order, and that I shoudn't ask for help.
I was asking about having control over my interface earlier, and you didn't even know the simple answer was to use the cog wheel. So you aren't helpful to me. Your 'solutions' were complicated and WRONG.
And while you're at it, get yourself another icon that isn't scary. Who wants to communicate with somebody who presents themselves as some kind of dark demon.
Maybe I WILL write to Firefox honchos directly. But right now I'm doing it this way. If I don't get results, then I will take it to a higher level. I need tools to work. Firefox is the one to give me the tools I need. I need them on History. That's my problem. There is no workaround here that I can see. And this forum is a place to try to find a workaround -- and once it's established that there is no such thing as a workaround, that's when Firefox programmers get busy and fix the holes in their new program.
I agree that you are all volunteers and that people like me should not be mean and take our frustrations out on you guys. But you also should not be telling us to buzz off, that you can't help us, and you're 'not responsible' -- or whatever other things you say. Or giving me links of technical articles to read. Why don't you read some of those yourself, so that you'd know what the cog wheel is for? That is insulting in itself when somebody asks for some help and the answer is simple and direct, but you offer a 'solution' of telling me to get a computer programming degree in effect, post me technical articles to read. Maybe that helps some people, but not me. I'm not a geek. I just like to use the Internet, not fix it.
My questions to this support group is level one of trying to adjust to the new Firefox. So if you don't like my question, don't answer. Don't tell me to go to computer school or read technical articles. I'm not a programmer, never will be one, and all I want to do is be able to use the Internet and do my research and write and communicate. When I run into problems I will use this forum the best I can.
I hope this communication with you has been of help. I guess if there was a button for you to press as to 'yes' or 'no' if it helped or not you'd probably say a loud NO.

I'm not understanding. Thank you for your patience. I'm not a programmer and I totally hate learning new things and big changes.
You are telling me that a toolbar in the history page won't work because it's not written in HTML? Can't Firefox make a special toolbar for history? They seem to be able to create anything they choose to create, so I don't understand why things that are important and necessary are not there, things that would make browsing such a better experience.
With YouTube, I hope that Firefox will be able to allow us to have control over our choices more. You probably know how it is, you want to find information on YouTube, and you Google, and the selection on Google is old and not complete but it's a start, so you get into YouTube watching something and you see that most on the page is not what you want, but it's all set up for autoplay. There are some channels I just hate and I would like to banish them from appearing as choices. There are so many blessings that can come from giving us more control over what is offered to us on YouTube. It was working great, and now it's not working at all, asking me to fill out a big questionaire and register and I'm afraid to answer the questions for fear my computer won't work anymore.
Maybe I should definitely write to the head people and thank them when they get it right. I was so happy with my new freedom on YouTube, and now I'm back to where I was only worse. I don't want to fill out a big customized program. I'm not a programmer. It's way too complicated and I'm afraid to even touch it for fear I will make my computer not work at all.
I still have hopes that things will be better soon, and today was just a bad day for me.
I was counting on Firefox programmers to stay in touch through this forum with the results of their changes at the request of the customers (like me). But probably once they do something I really like and am happy with I should use the email given to me to contact the honchos directly to tell them thank you. So I guess it's my fault for not being more proactive to try to get things fixed.
I recently got an update to my Outlook email system to 10, and my computer just looks like a big complicated thing that doesn't work. It's a few steps down from the Outlook I had before. If programmers make changes, they never seem to be for the better. Just ruining things usually.
I'm not happy with my computer anymore. At least I still have one that works, even if the spellcheck is a joke and I can't make more than one change at a time to my text without going back and clicking in between.
You guys aren't to blame for Microsoft. You aren't to blame for anything, and you're just trying to help. It must be frustrating for you also.
With reference to your YouTube related problems, please see my post here :

This is the best answer for me. I chose the other one by mistake. The other answer is the one that makes me realize there is no use asking. And your solution is the best and only solution.

Changes in future version of Firefox are possible. I already suggested a link to provide input in my first reply: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1199286#answer-1063352
The point of my last reply was that even if you open the history list in a regular Firefox tab, with the menus and toolbars available, that won't help. The ONLY way to use Email Link right now is to load the page you want to share and THEN use Email Link for the current page.
With YouTube, I hope that Firefox will be able to allow us to have control over our choices more.
Google changes YouTube all the time. And over the years add-on developers have posted numerous different solutions to fix problems with the site. I don't think that is going to change, in the sense that Firefox almost never contains tools to change how one particular site works, that's nearly always left to add-on developers to handle.

Thank you for all your help and for this link. I'm just going to use it to shoot a question upstairs as to why the feature Firefox provided to choose YouTubes went away. I realize YouTube and Firefox are two different entities, but Firefox is a browser to help us browse, so I figured it had some ins with YouTube and that's how it was able to create that app for me. Also, before the changes to Quantum there were apps that did work, but not anymore.
Anyway, I realize you guys can't make changes, and are here to help us through the maze, give workarounds, and filter problems down to their basic solution so that maybe the people upstairs can come up with something useful and good for their product.
Thank you and forgive my harsh comments to you?
