My emails stopped downloading on March 21. At first, the bar at the bottom that shows the downloading progress just kept showing it was full, but no mail came in. I got the suggestion on the forum to remove my password and see if TB prompted me for it. Well, it did not, and now the bar that shows the downloading is gone and nothing happens when I try to retrieve my mail.I also tried the repair folder option I can send emails out and I can see my messages on Comcast's server. So I know emails are coming in. I am wondering if I could back up my folders and re-install? I am running 52.7.0 (32-bit version. I have been using TB for a minimum of ten years or more and would sure like to get it working again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Walt

Chosen solution

this is POP. I removed the entered password, created a new folder and moved all the in box to it. Compacted empty inbox folder. Still no change. Thanks for the suggestions. Is re-installing an option here?

  • 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Security' > 'Paswords' tab
  • click on 'Saved Passwords'

Did you do this?

  • select the line for incoming mail for that account
  • click on 'Remove'

Or Did you do this?

  • click on 'Show Passwords'
  • right click on line for incoming mail and select 'Edit Password'
  • then remove the entered password

click on OK.

Assuming you did the first option to actually remove the entire line. Did you exit Thunderbird, wait a few moments for background processes to complete and then restart Thunderbird?

If no then please exit and restart Thunderbird.

Q: Are you talking about an imap or pop mail account?

Just in case of any corruption on Inbox....

  • Create a new folder(s) for organising mail.
  • Move all good emails from Inbox into the new folder(s).
  • Delete emails you do not want.

When Inbox is empty:

  • Right click on Inbox and select 'Compact folder'

There may be an email on server causing a log jam.

  • Logon to webmail account using a Browser.
  • Empty the 'Spam' folder.

In Thunderbird

  • select account and click on 'Get Messages'

If still no download: In webmail account:

  • look for the oldest email which has not downloaded.
  • Read and delete.
  • Empty Trash

In Thunderbird

  • select account and click on 'Get Messages'
