Recently had an issue where no email from my Gmail account would download. Traced it to the AVG Email Shield, turned it off and emails are working again.

Checked with AVG and the solution is to import the Email Shield Security Certificate into Thunderbird. Tried that with no luck. I keep getting an error in Thunderbird - "This personal certificate can't be installed because you do not own the corresponding private key which was created when the certificate was requested."

I created the certificate on the same computer I am trying to import it to. AVG says all the steps are right and it's a bug in Thunderbird.

Any help?

Chosen solution

Did you do this:

  • enter AVG, Menu, Settings, Components, Email Shield - Customize, SSL scanning, then export Certificate

In Thunderbird :

  • Menu icon > Options > Options > Advanced > 'Certificates' tab
  • click on 'Manage Certificates'
  • select' Authorities' tab
  • click on 'Import'
  • select the exported certificate from AVG
  • click on all the OK's

if it already installed AVG certificate, delete it first, then import again

Then restart Thunderbird.

Thank you!

It worked, had to delete the existing AVG certificate a few times before I could import the new one.
