i have changed all the Data Collection options to 'empty/null' i changed all options in about:config regarding datareporting, helath report, toolkit telemtry, etc. and STILL firefox creates a datareporting folder that bogs down the loading of pages. ii is created in this location: C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\95dg4iaz.default at one time i read that "Firefox will always create a datarepoting folder", but you used to be able to delete the datareporting folder in the Profiles folder and it would not come back. this has gotten truly annoying to have to delete this multiple times a day

If you have disabled data reporting in the Firefox settings, that's all you need to do to disable this feature.

The datareporting folder will still appear in your Firefox profile folder. This is normal because certain local information like your client ID is saved in there (see bug 1195552). You cannot disable the creation of this folder.

Repeatedly deleting that folder can have a negative performance impact because Firefox will need to go through the process of regenerating that data all over again each time you open Firefox.

Having that folder in your Firefox profile does not mean that any data is being submitted. That is entirely determined on your Firefox settings, since it sounds like you have already configured correctly.

Hope this provides some clarification.

thanks for the reply - i understand no data is being collected, but that folder that is created, THAT is the thing that slows everything down. And if supposedly no data is being collected, why is a folder with the name "datareporting" being created at all?

Like I said above, certain data like the client ID needs to be created and present for Firefox to work. If you keep deleting that folder, Firefox just has to recreate it again, which can slow it down.

What makes you think that Datareporting is slowing down Firefox ?

You can check the archived folder (datareporting\archived) to see whether reports are stored and possibly cleanup this folder.

There is a DisableTelemetry policy available that affects these two prefs:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check the Firefox Task Manager (about:performance).
