I have NEVER used the urlbar for search. Today I typed a website address in a new tab and the browser initiated a web search through my default search engine. How do I stop that happenening?

Chosen solution

This can happen if the urlt you typed in the location bar website can't be found.
You can set keyword.enabled to false on the about:config page to prevent initiating a search in such a case.

Thanks but that has nothing to do with it. I enter the url I want in the urlbar but now, instead of navigating to that url, Firefox takes it upon itself to initiate a web search.
