When I was using Firefox a box appeared asking to open a script file for Firefox. I suspected it was suspect so I saved the file and then tried to eliminate the box. Attempts at clicking Cancel or clicking the red circle in the corner failed to eliminate the box. Calling customer support at Apple told me to restart the computer. Restarted I booted Firefox and the aberrant box was gone. Apple support told be to resart the computer if the box reappeared. Question: Does Firefox need a copy of the aberrant script file? If so Firefox tech support should email me.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
