Recent issues with comcrap security and had to change passwords. Now when sending, I sometimes get this: Login to server SMTP.comcast.net with username dsjones54 failed More frequently, I get this: Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) SMTP.comcast.net. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'. My account is set to POP; appears no way to change to IMAP. No apparent problems with SMTP settings. I use Thunderbird on other computers, but no problems there accessing these same accounts. Switched to a VPN last month, but no problems with that and email until today. HELP!

Comcast do not allow sending unless you are using an IP address allocated by them to their network. ipso facto a VPN always leads to failure unless the IP is a comcast one.

I suggest turn off the VPN and see if the problem goes away as I expect it will. Note you can use a google SMTP server with appropriate setup for your comcast account. Fundamentally I sort of wish folk in the USA would just stop using ISP email addresses they are just hard work to keep going because of the framework they impose.
