In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter . The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise! , to continue to the about:config page. Search for the preference browser.fixup.alternate.prefix and double-click on it. Set the value to nothing.

You may want to disable the fixup altogether by setting the pref browser.fixup.alternate.enabled to false.

I already set browser.fixup.alternate.prefix as nothing, and browser.fixup.alternate.enabled to false, but the firefox still add the www. automatically,I am on windows xp, and firefox 3.6.6 .
