Issue

I have another kind of problem with Firefox

Description

OK, we're all about Open Source. We're about non-profit.

Why then are we posting on Twitter and Facebook? I know Facebook is pretty big and "down with the kids" but Twitter is just hype; and commercial at that.

It's sending the WRONG message. Come on Mozilla, let's use a completely OPEN solution to micro-blogging and show the world that we support OPEN developers.

Hello Marc.

Although not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at getfirefox.com.

As for Twitter, it sucks... But if you don't want to use it, you don't have to. Planet.mozilla.org is a nice place to follow everything Mozilla related, and it's a site, not twitter.

Tx. Morbus. I thought I had upgraded - how remiss of me! (Particularly as I'm something of a Mozilla evangelist). I'll go whip myself soundly in a mo.

As for Twitter, my point (and I'm trying to reach out here - these forums are not ideal) is that despite sucking (no argument there) Mozilla really has no business in promoting it.

Being commercial and closed source, Twitter Inc. stands for pretty much everything that Mozilla doesn't. It may only be a vehicle, but large sites such as this one have a responsibility to show that it's not the only way to micro-blog. As a community we should eschew it completely because by supporting it we're giving a legitimacy that it simply does not deserve.

Marc, you may want to see this:

http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?sel=usenet%3Dmozilla.dev&pli=1

It's the Google Groups discussion nest, I'm sure you'll reach the developers much faster there, since they read that discussion group. SUMO is really more about support and all :)

Marc,

You are running the most recent Firefox release - 3.6.4 - the rv:1.9.2.4 Gecko/ 20100611 .

Your UserAgent string in Firefox is probably messed up by another program that you installed, unless you changed the UA yourself for some reason. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Agent

type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page. Filter = general.useragent. Right-click the preferences that are bold, one line at a time, and select Reset, Then restart Firefox

I always have to miss that, don't I? XD Sorry for the mislead, Marc.

I get the UA - I just hadn't checked. ;0)

Personally, I don't see a lot of point in messing with the UA string. I'm a web developer and that's the last thing I worry about: gimme a feature test any day. Then JSLint to make sure it will work in IE! LOL.
