streaming video freezes, but un-freezes when I click on 2nd tab

I stream The Rachel Maddow Show from the MSNBC website http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/ The last couple of days the stream will freeze, but if I keep a 2nd tab open in the same browser window, all I have to do is click on that 2nd tab and the streaming resumes. WTF?? Seems odd to me. I noticed the last couple of months that some of the ads would freeze, but the last couple of days the show itself started freezing, and I discovered this work-around yesterday kind of by accident.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
