when i use the recently bookmarked selection in bookmarks it works fine and loads the page quickly and doesn't open another window. but when i go to unsorted bookmarks and double click on desired bookmark it loads very slowly and cycles for a long time. if i go to the firefox icon in the launcher on natty 11.04 with unity it shows two windows open. i click on the unsorted bookmarks window and manually shut it down and it works ok then, and finishes loading the unsorted bookmark page i was trying to view. why does the unsorted bookmarks window not close on its own? is there a setting that i can make it close automatically. it really slows down loading the page i was trying to view. much Thanks for any help or advice.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Thanks for your reply. I went to the link and read the info. I read where you can edit "places.sqlite" or delete it. "If you suspect that the file is corrupted, deleting "places.sqlite" will delete your browsing history, and a new, empty file will be created automatically" I double clicked on folder and it wouldn't open. If i am understanding this correctly can I right click on folder and move it to trash bin and it will automatically create new empty folder? Much thanks for your help!

Don't Delete the whole Folder. Just Delete or Rename the file which is named places.sqlite.

If you Delete the whole folder, all your Firefox Add-ons, Passwords, Cookies, Bookmarks, Browsing History, Themes, etc. will also be removed.

Sorry, I'm a noob and still have trouble asking my questions properly. But here is what I did. Went to, home folder > pessed ctrl + h >.mozilla >firefox > 00gl9loq 1.default > places.sqlite. What I was thinking is right click places.sqlite and move to trash bin. In the bottom left of screenshot I attached. Is this correct? Much thanks for your help.

Yes Delete ALL places.sqlite-xxxx named files. From the screenshot you have attached you need to Delete/Rename these files:

  • places.sqlite
  • places.sqlite-shm
  • places.sqlite-wal

Firefox Profile folder

Check and tell if its working.

I followed all the steps and it still does the same thing. When I go to recently bookmarked and click once on the bookmark it opens right up. But I go to same bookmark in unsorted bookmarks I have to double click to get page to load and the bookmark window stays open but it loads a little quicker now. I then have two windows open. Thanks.
