some links are not live any more: example can't get in to Hotmail, can't look at my wall on Facebook in English. They just became dead after I downloaded a dictionary.

Recently both the Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause an issue like that. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.
