Rollover images on sites not working, Land's End site not showing specific product images, links on some sites not working. Want to uninstall and download v8 to use again, but can't find a link. Can any one help me?

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Thanks Cor-el. None of this worked and it won't restart in safe mode because in order to stop it running in the background for it to restart, I have to end the process. It will not stop running by closing the app. I'll give firefox one last try by uninstalling, using Windows Clean Up to remove any registry entries and reinstalling. If that doesn't work, I'll switch browsers. I've spent 1-1/2 days working on this problem and am quite frustrated with the whole mess.

In Firefox 4+ versions you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Cor-el...

I did a complete uninstall, ran Windows Clean Up and reinstalled. Restored my bookmarks and all is working fine. Should have just done this in the first place. Lost my cookies, but that's fairly minor.

Thanks for all your help. Although all my bookmarks imported cleanly into Chrome, I really prefer Firefox and am glad to be back up an running.
