Firefox is checking the compatibility of my add-ons every time it starts. Does anybody know where in about:config this can be switched off? All the usual suggestions (prefs.js etc) have not worked. This problem recurs every time I upgrade; if no solution is forthcoming I'm off to Chrome.

about:config experts ? ha ha ha...

You must create extensions.checkCompatibility because does not exist by default and make it FALSE.

(Right-click anywhere in about:config and choose New > Boolean)

do not forget to put the version extensions.checkCompatibility.10.0

see for more info :

I have dozens of these statements, ranging from v3.6 to v10.0. and all are FALSE.

Make sure that your Norton software isn't protecting .ini and other files in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

There is usually no need to use the Add-on Compatibility Reporter extension to force extensions to install, so try to disable that extension and reset all prefs e.g. via the Safe mode start window.
