why is Zone Alarm Security incompatable with Firefox 24.0?

more options

In the addon section of Firefox there is a statement that says ZoneAlarm Security Engine 1.5.393.22 (disabled) by www.checkpoint.com

Why? and does it mean that if I am using Firefox browser I am not protected on the internet?

hello cfox3dc, it's the job of a third-party developer of an addon that hooks into firefox to adapt or make such an extension compatible with new versions. mozilla is releasing new versions of the browser on a fixed schedule and makes early alpha and beta versions publicly available months ahead, so this certainly won't come as a surprise to any third-party developer.

more importantly, the extension you've mentioned will do little to increase your protection on the web and your main antivirus and firewall process will just continue to run fine without it: https://www.zonealarm.com/forums/showthread.php/79640-zonealarm-and-firefox?p=296953#post296953

it's far better to stay with current versions of the browser which contain security fixes for all sort of issues: https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html

Thank you Phillip.

Now if I could just figure out how to get rid of Yahoo on my browser. I just got a new lap top and one of the programs that I downloaded had it in there and I have tried deleting history, making google my default browser and shut down, opended up and it it still there. It infuriates me!!

Again Thanks for your answer. Have a great day

Hi cfox3dc, you may have an extension that keeps restoring Yahoo as your home page and/or search engine.

Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > in the left column, click Extensions

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Also, if you find you can change your home page during the session (Ctrl+n opens your home page successfully) but it reverts when you exit and restart Firefox, check for a user.js file as described in this article: How to fix preferences that won't save.
