Slow running script error when in Gmail (gtalk)
When I open Gmail I repeatedly get the following dialog:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Thank you.
Some more (hopefully) useful information:
- Starting Firefox in safe mode doesn't help.
- This doesn't happen in Chrome Browser (seems to be Firefox specific).
- It happens only when "Hangouts" chat is enabled in Gmail web mail.
- If the classic chat is the one used, this doesn't happen.
- Happens every time I open a new email.
The complete message I get is:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Thanks!!
I have realized that this is only happening in my work's corporative Gmail account. My personal account has Hangout chat active and works just fine. I can't tell what's the difference between the accounts.
Let me know if I can help any further, do some tests, whatever.
Thanks, regards...
Yes, this also happens on my company Gmail account.
One more thing about this: It seems that it actually happens on Chrome too. It doesn't show a debugging message like Firefox, but I have noticed it lags several seconds in the same cases the issue is shown in Firefox. So maybe Chrome just doesn't show a message, but it happens there too.
I also am seeing this issue in my work Gmail account on Firefox (26).
I've had several users complain about this exact issue.
I was getting same error and it was so irritating. Finally I downgraded to old gchat from google hangouts and it fixed the issue.
Disable "People Widget" from the main settings page of your Google mail. That workaround will solve this problem.
