I installed new FF 38.0.1. When have multiple tabs opened, Close button on browser does not function. I have to close tabs one by one and whet it comes to last one opened, then close button on browser functions. That means that I can't remember open tabs to reopen all of them in next running FF. Can you help on this pls?

Download Firefox portable quickly whilst it is still based on FX31. Install as an additional browser. That may at least let you have an alternative Firefox browser to run tests with instead of fx 38.0.1

  • Does that behave ok ?
  • Did you only notice this after the upgrade from 38.0.0 or did you jump direct to 38.0.1 ?

Especially with a lot of tabs open on a slow machine Firefox may take quite a while to close down have you tried giving it a few minutes to see if that works ? I believe now if Firefox fails to close down it actually should initiate a Crash and generate a crash report have you looked for CrashIDs

What happens if you use the shortcut Alt+F4 that should cause Firefox to quit, but especially on XP I am not sure it would do so in an orderly manner and would probably still lose your open tabs, but it may be worth trying.

Do you have a "tabs" extension installed? Like maybe TabMix Plus? If so, maybe it needs to be updated? Lately TMP seems to need to be fixed for every-other new version of Firefox that comes out...

Does Close Tab work from the tab context menu? If not, do any of the other tab context menu items work? Like Close Other Tabs?

Also, there is a tabs context menu item for Bookmark All Tabs. You can use that to save tabs that are open, so that if you need to close Firefox you don't have to rely on the tabs being saved as "session".

I noticed this after the upgrade from 37.0.1 direct to 38.0.1 . I tried to update TabMix Plus AddOn but there isn't any update yet. Alt+F4 works, but it is not sutable because I can't choose if I want to save open tabs or not.

Please try Firefox in its safe mode, then try it with TMP disabled or uninstalled, that at least narrows down what is causing this.

Post back to say what happen.

I started FF in safe mode and disabled TMP. Close button is working now. Sure, I can't restore my opened tabs because TMP is disabled, but obviously problem with close button has been caused by TMP. I must wait for TMP update for fixing this bug. Thank you very much!

Firefox has built-in session restore that might have been disabled by TMP, so you can check the related sessionstore prefs on the about:config page and if necessary reset them via the right-click context menu.
