Emails I've replied to marked as unread. When I mark it as read, the reply disappears. How do I fix this?

Immediately after replying to or forwarding an email it is marked as unread. When I change the mark to read all the replies and/or forwards disappear. Can find no record of them anywhere. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

re :Immediately after replying to or forwarding an email it is marked as unread. So it is still in bold when you select to read - have you turned off the auto mark as read ? Usually, once you have selected the email to read it, it is auto marked as read either immediately or within a few seconds.

What options are selected here: via 'Menu Bar' 'Tools' > 'Options' > Display' > 'Advanced' tab or Via 'Mail Toolbar' 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > Display' > 'Advanced' tab See first image below. Tell me what is currently selected for every option under 'Reading' or better still post an image.


re :When I change the mark to read I presume you are doing this manually using the right click menu choice. There are a few means of doing this, please tell me which one you are using.

  • Method A: Do you right click on the email in the list to see drop down contect menu options?
  • Method B: You are readin the message in the Message Pane, then use the 'Menu Bar'...'Message' > 'Mark' > 'As read' ?
  • Method C: Do you open the message in a new tab and then use a right click on the actual email content area and then select from the drop down contect menu options?

re :all the replies and/or forwards disappear Can you clarify exactly what you mean by this? 'Reply and Forwarded' emails are sent emails, so they would be in your 'Sent' folder.

Do you mean the original received email which you responded to and now marked as read disappears? If yes, perhaps you have a different view displaying emails. Check Settings: 'View' > 'Folders' > 'All' 'View' > 'Threads' > 'All'

Have you selected to view only 'unread' mail ? There is a 'show only unread messages' icon on the 'Quick Filter Bar'. It looks like a pair of 'sunglasses'. See second image below. Selecting that icon will only display bold unread emails. So if you read / mark as read then it would disappear from the list. Clicking on that same icon will reverse the display.
