I just updater to Firefox 56.0 a few days ago. I chose to turn on "Block pop-up windows" but it has become PITA so I unchecked it and unchecked "Warn you when websites try to install add-ons". PROBLEM, it resets itself to block pop ups and the box becomes checked again. I am running a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.5. How can I get Firefox to not turn on the, Block pop-up windows after unchecking it?

Thanks, Al

OK, I think I found the problem. I had, "Popup Blocker Ultimate" installed and for some reason with it turned on it would not let me opt out of the Firefox popup blocker. When I disabled it I was able to opt out of the Firefox popup blocker. I just uninstalled Popup Blocker Ultimate and all is well. I did not have this problem before I upgraded from 53.0 to 56.0. I may have turn on Popup Blocker Ultimate after I went to 56.0. I'm 68 and don't always remember the little things. Thanks all for the help.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

I don't have any of that type of software. Thanks, Al

Did you check the link?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Change the pop-up option. Close Firefox. Now open FF again in Safe Mode (wait 20 seconds first). Is the problem still there?

Tried it twice and no joy. Has anyone else tried to opt out of "Block pop-up windows" on a Mac to see if the problem might be in Firefox 56.0? Just a side note, when I was in safe mode and opened Firefox to where "Block pop-up windows" is it was checked. Unchecking it and clicking any where on that page or on a different page in preferences would automatically check the box again. The above also happens when not in safe mode. Unless I find a cure I may try and downloading Firefox again.
