have good internet connection but firefox will not access internet when search query is entered

When I started my pc today (windows 7) mozilla said it needed to update, so I clicked to allow update. But when I opened my firefox browser and typed in a search term, the browser did nothing. It will not access internet, although my connection is fine. I've been able to connect using bing, so I know my connection is fine. HELP!

Are you able to load pages using any of these methods:

(A) Clicking a Firefox bookmark

(B) Using a shortcut on your Windows desktop, or a Windows Favorite, assuming that Firefox is your default browser

(C) Pasting the following in the Windows Start menu search box and pressing Enter to submit it: 

firefox.exe -url "https://support.mozilla.org/"
