How do I re-enabled an extremely important add on that was disabled by a Firefox version upgrade?

I had the two factor authenticator add-on installed in Firefox and a version update disabled that add-on. This add-on has CRITICAL information stored in it. How do I re-enable this add-on while retaining the data in the add-on? It would be nice to have a warning before a new version installed that it was going to do something like this...

Hi MichaelAnd, are you saying that an update to Firefox disabled the extension, or an update to the extension made it incompatible with your old version of Firefox?

What is the wording of the message on the Add-ons page explaining why the extension is disabled?

Sorry, a Firefox update disabled the add on. I clicked to update the add on and that failed. Now I just have a message that reads "Two Factor Authenticator could not be verified for use and has been disabled." I tried changing the setting in about:config, but not sure if I need a different version of FF for that to work, or if I need to restart the browser first (I have a lot of tabs open currently).

I'm on version 65, so I will update and try this now. Thanks.

Updating fixed it, you guys rock! Thanks very much to both of you for your quick support! I don't even get support this good from paid software vendors.
