My old computer crashed. I was able to connect its old hard drive as an external drive to my new computer. I would like to recover all my old bookmarks (there was no prior backup on the old drive).

Is there a file in which bookmarks are stored which I may copy from the old drive to the new one to restore the old bookmarks? Thanks!

(I still have the original Firefox files on the old hard drive, including the one I presume contains all my old bookmarks.)

By the way, the system used on the old disk drive was Windows 2000. I'm assuming Firefox files for Windows 2000 are different from the Windows XP version.

Thanks for the tip. I did indeed find the hidden Profile directory on the old hard drive, but that folder does not have the [places.sqlite] file containing my old bookmarks. There is such a file in the current Firefox directory (on my C: drive), which is the one that needs to be changed. The only [.sqlite] file of note that I found on the E: drive was [urlclassifier.sqlite] -- is that from an earlier Firefox version???

Never mind... I was looking under Default Users. I got back to the right folder and "Presto! Here's the file!" Thanks a million. I got all my stuff back. Cheers.

You're welcome.

I have a recent acronis backup. My bookmarks disappeared and the restore backup fails. I see application data\mozilla\firefox. I would think that I can simply copy ALL the files from my backup drive and be back where I was. Correct?

That seems plausible, but why are you restore backups failing ? you may just get back to a position where you have no bookmarks. Have you seen Lost bookmarks

Hi Ambreville,

Have similar problem as you. cannot open firefox anymore. I would like to get to the directory that stores all the bookmarks and manually copy them elsewhere before doing a reinstall of firefox. Your feedback will be highly appreciated Thanks
