after upgrading my mac to OS10.6.5, how do I rescue my previous Firefox profile?
usually, when I upgrade Firefox - the application automatically restores all my bookmarks, settings, etc... I had major problems w/ my iMac on 10.5.8 due to my changing a setting in trying to 'fix' a problem w/ 'dropbox'. Almost lost everything - had to reformat HD and was able to restore apps and user profiles from timemachine. For some reason, Firefox wasn't one of them. I'm sure its there somewhere - can you assist?

You can find your Firefox Profile Folder in this location on a Mac:
- /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/

Thanks for the information. I couldn't find the folder at first - (working off of an older user id - backed up by timemachine... and then I read the info you provided off the other website - and did some more digging. Thought I found it and dragged it back to where It should be on my current set-up. quit firefox and restarted - but same result - no older bookmarks (passwords) etc... So I still must be doing something wrong. Thank you for trying to help - I can't afford to open a new ticket w/ Apple - and may have to just give up.
Update - I kept thinking about it and went back into the timemachine HD to see if I could find the right folder again. Part of the problem is that when I did the reinstall from the backup after loading the new OS, it only uploaded one 'profile' and that one just so happened to be an older one, w/ data that was 2 years and older. None of my current docs / pics / settings came over. Anyway - when I finally did find the right folder for the Firefox Profile - it kept giving me error messages about not having the right permission, etc... So was able to go in and correct that when I did copy it over to the right area on the main HD and rebooted. When Firefox came up, it had the old 'opps' we're embarrassed, and a list of the tabs I had open, allowing me to choose which ones to not start up again... you know the screen. That was the good news. The bad news - the whole system was frozen.... couldn't get the mouse to move, couldn't even get the keyboard shortcuts to close out the app, or even get to the force quit application. So maybe I should really give up on trying to get the old bookmarks, etc...
