when a new tab loads I dont get my homepage -I get somoto instead

When I press the plus button to make a new tab the new page automatically loads with a useless search engine called somoto. It does not load with my chosen homepage Google, even though this is selected in my preferences in tools>options>general>. There seems to be no obvious rogue plugin or add-on that can be deleted when I look at the lists in tools>add-ons. I do not have a somoto toolbar.
