the private window won't open - I've tried both ways to open it!
what's above says it all - I had to reset firefox earlier to get rid of the 'your pc is slow' bug, and now private window will not open - I've used the 'file' drop down menu method, and also the menu top right with the 3 horizontal lines - neither works.

Have you tried using the keyboard shortcut? Ctrl + Shift + P
sorry... that hasn't worked either! - tried it three times...
Hello howard99, check if you are in Private Browsing already, if you set in Privacy > Firefox will > Never remember history then you always start Firefox in Private Browsing and firefox won't have a purple Private Browsing mask.

also try restarting
Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
You can also check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.
