when i delete message on iphone, it doesn't delete in thunderbird on my mac

i use thunderbird on mac via gmail account. when i delete messages via thbird on mac, this synchs with server and it also deletes on iphone. however, when i do the reverse, it deletes off phone, but not on mac/thbird. i checked with apple on iphone settings, and all seem to be well. also, when i delete off iphone and check inbox on gmail directly (via browser), the deleted email is gone on gmail, but is still on mac/thbird. i think my imap settings on thbird are correct, but not sure.

are you actually using IMAP on your iphone?

yes. Other IMAP features are working. when i "read/open" a message on my phone, it shows as "read/opened" on my computer/thunderbird app.
