Desktop shortcuts no longer work
I'm running Firefox 38.0.1 on Windows 8.1. Firefox is set as my default browser. I created a bunch of desktop shortcuts (.url) to web pages, but they've recently stopped working. I double-click on the shortcut and nothing happens.
I've tried turning off hardware acceleration as someone suggested on a related thread, but that didn't work.
Does someone know how to fix this?

Right click on one of them and check to make sure that the target property is correct:
The directory for Firefox: Firefox C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ Firefox (64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
Is Firefox still set as the default browser?

Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser.
Note that changing the default browser will reset the desktop icons of internet shortcuts.
