As soon as the little tag window closes on bookmarked pages all of my tags are erased. I'm missing over 70% of all research tags over the past two weeks, which tells me this is also a sporadic issue. 2 weeks of attempting to locate the problem within my computer have been unsuccessful (not sure what data to share, if any). I'm not using browser add-ons.

Pretend you're talking in normal language to a 5 year old, not computer terminology:

How do I resume saving tags, please? Is a browser add-on for saving tags advisable?

Are you using Sync to sync the bookmarks?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync (temporarily) while performing maintenance/repair efforts to the places.sqlite database. You can change the password for the Sync account to reset data stored on the Sync server.
