Verizon changed their information this month and since that time their service goes through AOL. I have set up my email for verizon but thunderbird does not let me send or reply to any email. I set up a gmail account but it still will not let me send. the send is grayed out!!!

For Gmail outgoing server you need: Server name: smtp.gmail.com Connection Security: SSL/TLS Port: 465 Authentication: OAuth2

AOL says the verizon problem maybe theres

I don't understand what that means, and I thought your question was about Verizon/AOL, not Gmail.

What are the required server settings for Verizion (through AOL) as per Verizon instructions? Please post them here (or a link). I suppose they do have a support web site.

The questions was about both see title verizon.net and gmail. Verizon migrated to aol. Aol says they are having a problem so that was why i said aol said they are having a problem with verizon. I tried your setting with gmail but it still does not send.

You haven't adjusted the Gmail outgoing server settings.

I am a Verizon customer that has been forced to transition to AOL. Prior to change over, I used Thunderbird to manage prime eMail account and at least two subaccounts, one we'll call wife and one we'll call husband. Each was able to send eMail such that the return address shown to person receiving messages was wife@company.org or husband@company.org even though they were sent out through an smtp.verizon.net outgoing server.

Over a period of two weeks, OAL set up accounts for each. I can receive mail for each account using Thunderbird. I believe Wife@verizon.net was the first account to be set up on AOL. Later husband@verizon.net was set up on AOL. I have eMail messages from AOL confirming account settings.

I've set up both in an identical manner. In both cases the "Email Address" is entered as "husband@company.org" or "wife@company.org" Mail sent from wife@company.org goes out without issue and when received, shows wife@company.org as the sending address. Mail sought to be sent from husband@company.org doesn't work; error message .. mail server responded 5.7.1 ...sender address rejected: not owned by user (outgoing mail address).

I've have spent hours on the telephone with AOL and Verizon help and chat people. None are able to explain why one works and the other does not. Moreover, there must be some feature of account wife@company.org that is linked to the AOL server, because changing the names of entries in the wife's Thunderbird settings, i.e. changing name from wife to husband and like, does not lead to working outgoing mail.

I very much want my (husband's) outgoing mail to appear that it is coming from husband@company.org, so replies are all routed to husband@company.org. With same, when I go on vacation, I tell my web site host of send mail addressed husband@company.org to son@company.org. As customers only see husband@company.org, none of them are sending mail to the real verizon / AOL address that is not be redirected.

I don't care if I loose wife@company.org.

Does anyone have any idea as to how Verizon / AOL knows to allow one alias and not the other?
