Just upgraded to 38.7.2. and now can't get emails

The subject lines says it all. No error messages, and no emails either. If I hit 'Get Messages" a message at bottom left says connected to email server and green bar appears at bottom right as usual, but no emails turn up although they're on the server at my ISP. Tried running with add-ons disabled. No difference. Help! I'm running Windows 10, 64bit,
