Just upgraded to TB v38.5. Now the header in the message pane is 3 lines deep and the button at top left (in the old version) that allowed it to be reduced to 1 line is no longer there.

Who decides to remove these options and dictate how it should look? I don't want all this wasted space. How can I reduce the curséd thing to 1 line? Or do I have to continue using the old version?

Thanks.

You decide how it looks. Sometime in the past you decided to install the add on Compact Header. Now you have forgotten that and it needs to be updated to work with the new Thunderbird version.

Thanks for the reply, but the Compact Header 2.0.9 add-on is still installed. Changing the options makes no difference, neither does restarting TB. Presumably it doesn't work with later TB versions, and updates don't work—the link just results in a blank web page.

Amazing! I couldn't find the CH update, so installed the add-on Toggle Headers and now it works properly. Not at all sure how the two work together (I'm just a button-pusher) but I don't care so long as don't have to put up with that wasted space.

Many thanks for your help, Airmail—appreciated.
