I recently got a new android phone and have been working on it to set up email, fb, etc. Would this have caused my problem with not receiving any new messages in my e-mail? I haven't received any new mail since receiving this phone.

if you phone is accessing and deleting our mail from the server then it would explain why you get none in Thunderbird, it would be a race to see which got to your mail first.
