Can the 'redirect' add-on functionality be added to "message filters" ? I'd like to use Thunderbird's message filters to 'redirect' (not forward) messages.

I use 'message filters' to automatially select & forward some message I receive to my assistant. However, forwarding changes the "From", "To" etc. so that she cannot immediately reply.

I use the "redirect" add-on, but it only runs manually.

Is there any way to add the "redirect" functionality as an option in "message filters" actions so that I 'redirect' rather than 'forward' the filtered messages? Basically, I would like 'redirect' to be an option in addition to 'forward.'

Thanks in advance, AJN

I too have thought this might be useful, but I don't know if it's something the redirect author could/should do, or whether it would be more effective to get a filter addon to accommodate this utility. I use Filtaquilla to enhance the filtering and it feels like a natural home for redirect.

Having said that, I'm wondering if you could set Thunderbird to forward as an attachment (rather than as inline) so your assistant would then get a verbatim copy of the original message.

The smart way to do these redirects is to do it at server level, but then of course your email management becomes divided between your client and a webmail interface, and the whole point of an email client (IMHO) is to be able to avoid webmall completely. Forwarding done by a server is very like what you achieve through using the redirect facility in the client.
