Sorry to hear about the crashes and thank you for the report IDs.

Is there any pattern to the sites on which you get crashes?

I know Firefox works less well when free memory becomes scarce and these percentages are borderline. Perhaps this article might be useful: Firefox uses too much memory or CPU resources - How to fix.

More generally, if you haven't already, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement? (More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode)

Almost every website i go on firefox just crashes most of the times. I do have some issues with memory, i plan to upgrade soon. However i didn't have a crash problem before this last firefox update. I will still try starting in safe mode to see what will happen. I have a question, how do i revert to a previous version of firefox? Firefox was working ok before upgrading to the latest version even though it was hogging up a lot of my RAM.

One of the main technical changes in Firefox 54 was to enable more individual content processes. In Firefox 48-53, the Firefox multiprocess feature would create one process for the UI and one process for content. Now Firefox will aim for four content processes. That does add overhead and with limited memory, you may not benefit.

You could try rolling back the number of content processes to 1. If this doesn't work, you may need to revert to single-process mode. Here's how you can try this:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste ipc and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the dom.ipc.processCount preference is bolded and "user set" to 4, double-click it and edit the value to 1, then click OK

Presumably that will not take effect until the next startup, at which time you should check it to make sure it hasn't reverted back. Any difference?

Alternately, you can disable multiprocess mode using a different preference:

(4) In the search box above the list, type or paste autos and pause while the list is filtered

(5) Double-click the browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 preference to switch the value from true to false

Note: the exact name of the preference may vary, but it will start with browser.tabs.remote.autostart

At your next Firefox startup, it should run in the traditional way. Any difference?

Oh yes i just remembered that in previous versions i read an article somewhere that indicated that i should change the dom.ipc.processCount from 4 to 1. I have made the changes for this firefox version and will give you a feedback if this has stopped the crashes after browsing a couple of websites.

Oh no, it just crashed again! See the last report Report ID Date Submitted bp-d1e3a47a-3dda-4788-bc27-bdea80170721 7/21/17 7:23 PM

Considering you don't have a lot of memory, perhaps it would help to switch from the regular releases to the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52 (ESR). It gets security updates but no feature changes for about a year at a time. ESR was first developed to meet the needs of large organizations that wanted Firefox to change much more slowly, but anyone can use it.

When you get to the ESR installer list, choose the regular Windows installer, not the Windows 64-bit installer, for your preferred language.

Exit Firefox, then run that installer, and it should locate and use your existing settings.

This is probably still a crash caused by an out-of-memory issue.

Maybe try to increase the size of the Windows page file in Windows Control Panel -> System.

Available Page File 579,260,416 bytes (552.43 MB)
Available Physical Memory 84,381,696 bytes (80.47 MB)
System Memory Use Percentage 91

What is the recommended size i should put for windows 7 to increase the page filing?

Thanks for the suggestion but how is that going to help my current situation with the crashes?

System - -> Advanced System Settings --> System Properties - -> Advanced Tab - -> Change Virtual Memory - -> Custom Size - -> ENTER Recommended Size - -> Set - -> Apply-- > Reboot

NOTE WHEN YOU UNTICK THE BOXES THE RECOMMENDED SIZE WILL NOW BE SHOWN BELOW . ENTER THAT NUMBER INTO BOTH BOXES.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

After doing the adjustment you mention here firefox was working ok yesterday until crashing this morning. One thing to note though it is not crashing regularly as before. I also have another problem, why when closing the firefox browser it takes so long for the firefox.exe to close down. Even after trying to close it in my task manager it will not stop even until after trying for a couple of times.
