Firefox stopped working even after reinstalling it, only some webpages load but not the majority of them--what can I do?

Firefox stopped working for some webpages which load easily on chrome or safari. Some webpages do load up in firefox but not most of them, like www.nytimes.com, for example--and many others. I removed every trache of firefox from my computer, including the library. The problem persists. I have used firefox for a more than a decade and I would like to continue using it. What can IO do to fix the problem?

Firefox stopped working for some webpages which load easily on chrome or safari. Some webpages do load up in firefox but not most of them, like www.nytimes.com, for example--and many others. Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
