Firefox will not close or respond, is grayed out and will not allow my computer to restart. I've tried uninstalling but Firefox is running so can't. Help!

Firefox was left open. Macbook Air went to sleep. When awakened Firefox was grayed out and not responsive. No dialog boxes or errors have appeared. I cannot quit, force quite or uninstall Firefox. I cannot restart my computer because Firefox cancels it. What do I do???
