Firefox updates wipe out cookies and settings
I have used Firefox for years and never had any problems with updates. But over the last year or two, updates frequently erase cookies that keep me logged in to sites that do not need to be secure, such as newsletters, or wipe out cookies that contain site settings for locations or preferences. Why do recent updates do this and is there a way to prevent this other than to refuse updates?

What about the rest of your profile? Settings, bookmarks, history, passwords . . . .
Are there any error messages?
Sometimes when the browser thinks there is a problem with the profile, it will create a new one.
Hi Fred, Thanks for the reply. No, bookmarks, extensions and Firefox internal settings are still intact. There are no error messages. The problem seems to be with only some cookies. I did have problems with one particular extension that was inactivated in some previous updates, but I found a replacement that does not have the problem.
There are other cookies still present that were set months (and several updates) ago and that still work. It is annoying because I work online and with every update, I have to log into sites that I am normally permanently logged into, reset location data for many sites, and seek verification codes for sites that no longer recognize the device.
