Cannot print from web pages-but can thru Windows explorer

Running Windows XP Have desktop printer and until2-3 months ago could print direct from websites ie receipts, application forms. Since then I cannot-just get error message from printer software (printer has been checked and drivers re installed) still same problem. But if I use Windows Explorer then printer works just fine. On HP forum there are several people with same basic problem (not necessarily the same printer though). Would prefer to use Firefox so is there a fix please ? If so please keep it very simple -thanks again Thanks Sue
