I have been using Firefox browser since many years and have been comfortable with its features. However, of late, after I upgraded to Firefox 5, the font in the browser doesn't seem as sharp as it is in other browsers, like IE8 or Chrome 12. I have a laptop with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium with a 2Gb NVidia graphics card/chip. While all other functions are working fine in FF5, somehow when I read lengthy documents in this browser it strains my eyes. So, I end up switching to another browser like Chrome where the same page appears with much sharper fonts. Can I adjust something in FF5 settings to get the same effect ?

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

I tried to re-configure ClearType in Windows 7 control panel and it seems to have improved a bit. Disabling hardware acceleration or using the add-on suggested by you didn't improve readability of fonts though. Seems native settings in FF5 are different from what it was in FF4. Thanks anyway !
