When I open a bookmarks folder that contains a large list of bookmarks that extend up into the menu bar and down into the task bar, the menu and task bars are overwritten and remain so even after the bookmarks menu is closed. This remains until the browser is closed and reopened or I click the Windows "Show desktop" button.

If disabling the hardware acceleration only works then you can probably do nothing else to fix it otherwise than updating the graphics display driver.

Try:

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

Thanks for the reply. When I disable hardware acceleration, the problem is resolved. However, when I view the properties for my display adapter (ATI Radeon HD4650) and search for driver updates, the driver that I have is the most current version.

Haven't had time yet to look at/address the corrupt localstore.rdf - but will soon.

You can also do a check for a malfunctioning theme (if you do not use the default theme) or extension if you haven't done that yet.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Thanks.

Did the corrupt localstore.rdf reset using the Safe Mode Method (Reset Toolbars & Controls). Did not fix the problem. Disabling the hardware acceleration is the only resolution so far.

Will try your latest suggestion next.

Thanks for all your help. Tried disabling all add-ons in Safe Mode and still have the problem as long as hardware acceleration is enabled. I will try to find a driver update myself instead of relying on Windows to find one. In the mean time, I'll just keep hardware acceleration disabled - I really see no difference in performance anyway.
