You may indeed be using the latest Firefox 8.0.1, just that the particular Google page may be incorrectly giving you the message that you are using a older version and need to update. For example the old Firefox default homepage http://www.google.com/firefox hosted by Google gives this message.

Thanks but I am using Google.co.uk . Tried google .com to no avail any help would be greatly appreciated
