In Firefox 10.0.2.4428, I get crashes on start, no crash monitor reporting, and no safe mode start either. This is the only information I can apparently pull out of the crash activity.

Thanks finitarry, but as stated I'd already uninstalled or reinstalled multiple times. I did find the solution. The Citrix Virtual Desktop Agent appears to cause the problem, referenced below.

Then I just had to repair my profile and I was back in business.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

See:

See:

If you have submitted Breakpad crash reports then post the IDs of one or more Breakpad crash reports (bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx). You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page. You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

Hi Swarnava,

I cannot create a new profile, the app crashes before profile manager can even launch.

Likewise, no new Crash Reporter logs are being generated. I think it is dying before it can commence.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See:

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit"

Hi, I guess I didn't make myself clear, I've already tried to boot into Firefox Safe Mode, it still crashes. I've tried the commandline version of safe mode, I've tried the shift hold version, nothing works.

I cannot access firefox's menus in any way, shape or form. The app crashes before anything happens.

Anyone have any ideas? Kind of sucks not to be able to run firefox anymore. Thanks.

Move the profile (starting with the Firefox parent directory) to some other location. Start Firefox. It will create a new profile, which you can then test to see if it works. If so, you can back it up, then try moving files from the old profile back one by one, testing each time to make sure that it causes no problems. With Windows, you have to make hidden files visible in order to find the profile.

I removed the profile directory completely. It continues to crash before even trying to generate a profile.

Then you probably need to uninstall Firefox and completely reinstall it. Use another browser to download it.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Thanks cor-el, but the Citrix VDA fix solved the problem.

Hi Millerd; Facing the same problem, wondering what Citrix VDA does. Looked on the web, and it's vage for me, am not a pro in computer problems. Can you please explain me more about the problem, what it was, so I can try your solution. To make it more clear for you, the computer is located in UK, and I am suporting it remote ( teamview and or LogMeIn) from the Netherlands. The owners have no knowledge of computers at all, kid is 9 years!

Hi Cuber10,

As far as I can tell the Citrix VDA is a series of dlls and other hooks into the OS to allow for speedier virtualization client communication. The environment I'm operating in uses a Citrix virtual desktop client infrastructure, and they roll out the VDA to ensure that remote (and local virutalized desktop) users can connect and see everything on the client side. Sometimes with Windows 7 and below, some lower level OS screens/options are not natively viewable except on the direct hardware, which is pretty useless for virtualization. But that's what I recall. Unless your users are using Citrix, there might not be a solution. You might look at error reports from Teamview and LogMeIn to see if they've had any issues. I hope that helps in some way.
