I have Firefox 12.0 for Windows XP. When I opened Firefox, my normal start page (google) was not there. Instead it was a black page and on the tab it was titled "New Tab" and the address bar says "go to a website". When I type in an address, nothing happens other than the the typed address stays in the address bar and the tab still says "New Tab". Nothing loads at all and it still is a blank screen. There is no error message either. I have tried reinstalling Firefox but that does nothing. As I use Firefox for pretty much everything, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
