Where are bookmarks located so I can back them up to a dvd using Burn Now?
I am having trouble backing up my Firefox bookmarks to dvd. I've been backing up the (XP) FAVORITES folder but I just noticed that the bookmarks in this folder are not my present Firefox bookmarks that are displayed on the Firefox Bookmarks "drop-down." Where are the bookmarks located to see them and burn them to dvd using Ulead Burn Now? I followed the path C:>docs and settings>user name>application data>Mozilla but I couldn't find any bookmarks inside any of the folders within the Mozilla folder. Shouldn't I be able to see these bookmarks in some folder? Thanks for your time and consideration. A.C.

You can create an HTML backup of the bookmarks.
- Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Export Bookmarks to HTML
Such a file can be opened in Firefox and isn't to difficult to interpret in a text editor (an HTML editor should do a better job).

Have you checked the following articles?
Export bookmarks to Internet Explorer
in both cases, the first part of the procedure is the same: you export bookmarks to an HTML file, which you can burn on DVD.
Would Sync be an alternative to a DVD you need to keep around? How do I set up Sync on my computer?

Is there a specific folder and filename where these bookmarks can be seen without opening Firefox? What if I just want to view them and, perhaps, email them somewhere?
Thanks!
Hi ndemai0, bookmarks are stored in a SQLite database (places.sqlite), which is hard to view without software that understands the SQLite format. You can read the files in the bookmarkbackups folder (.json files) if you squint very hard. They are plain text, but formatted for computers, not people.

jscher2000 - that was helpful, thank you. A follow-up question: In attempt to take the bookmarks off one machine and "import" them manually onto another machine, I tried simply copying all of the bookmarks-(date).json files from the first computer into the corresponding directory on a second computer. But then, when I opened Firefox on the the second computer, those newly copied bookmarks do not show up in the bookmarks menu.
What am I doing (or not doing) wrongly? Thanks again!
Hi ndemai0, you copied the files into the bookmarkbackups folder? Firefox doesn't normally read from that folder, only write to it. The "live" bookmarks are stored in a file at the top level of the profile folder named places.sqlite.
Firefox will only 'import' and HTML backup automatically if you delete all places files (places.sqlite) in the main profile folder.
