In the past I have manually edited main menu/Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Encryption/View Certificate/Authorities to untrust all CA's except the 8 or so I really need. Apparently that caused Firefox 20 (Ubuntu Linux) to refuse to install any new add-ons. I know this because if I swap into my profile a pristine copy of cert8.db where all CA's are default trust it works ok. Is there 1 or 2 CA's that I can allow which will let Firefox install add-ons? Otherwise I have to do this cert8.db file swap whenever I want to install a new add-on.

You can check which root certificates are used if you click the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on location bar and click More Information and "View Certificate" and go to the Details tab.
