Hi there, i've had this issue for about 3 months, and i've dealt with it, but it's gotten pretty bad recently.

Firstly, my firefox "automatic cache management" doesn't seem to work. My HDD has more than 250 GB free, but it refuses to cache more than 350 MB. I watch videos and streams quite often so this is a huge issue.

Secondly, my cache (even when simply browsing google for search results) fill up rapidly. I go from 0 KB in the cache to 80 MB after a few pages. This is an issue because when I clear my cache, some of this data resides, and since it fills up so quickly, it goes from being 15 KB or a MB of data that doesn't get deleted, to 80 MB that stays around after I clear the cache. I have to manually go in to the cache folder on my computer, and delete the files there.

My second and more important point, is that for some reason, my web pages end up odd. As if there's no design on the page. Everything is pushed to the left, text overlaps, and no applications load. I have to clear the cache (And sometimes go into my firefox folder which takes a while, and search for files to be deleted.)

I've tried everything from a reinstall of firefox, to a reinstall of my OS itself, but for some reason it doesn't work.

Scraping all of my add-ons seemed to work for a while, but browsing without noscript and adblock plus (the only two I usually ever have active) is really difficult and annoying. Plus, even after a few days, the issues resurfaced, even without the add-ons.

I really like firefox, and would prefer to use it over another browser, but it's really difficult to even browse youtube, since it seems like every page I visit has a 50% chance of "corrupting" the cache, and forcing me to clear it.

Any advice that anyone has would be extremely appreciated.

If you have made changes to Advanced font settings like increasing the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" in case the current setting is causing problems.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)

Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but to use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with text not being displayed properly.

You may have security software interfering if you suffer that much for the cache getting corrupted.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Thank you for the quick response. The option to allow website font to override my own was checked, and minimum was set to none, so I guess that's not it.

My antivirus is Avast!, I'm not opposed to switching or removing it entirely, MSE provides all it does and then some. I just haven't had a reason to remove it until now.

As for trying in safe mode, I will do, and will report back in a few hours (Since it varies with how long it takes for the cache to get messed up)

Well, turning on safe mode seemed to help. there was no "corruption" after about 45 minutes.

Before I did so, however, I took a look at the plugins section of firefox, and took it upon myself to try and clear out/disable some of the ones I no longer needed.

I think turning off the adobe reader plugin, and java plugins may have solved my issue. The cache has stopped bloating rapidly, no page mess-ups.

So, hopefully, it's solved. I'll keep the thread open for another day or so, just in case.
