I have several accounts in thunderbird & now my delete message button will not work on the gmail account but does on the other non gmail accounts

I have a group gmail account which has been working fine in Thunderbird until this week. I have several other earthlink accounts also. They are all working fine, but the gmail account is very slow now receiving and sending emails. The delete button to remove an email also will not work for the gmail.

any ideas? thanks
