I want to keep my Thunderbird email files stored on my desktop but I want to access them from my laptop. I want to be able to install Thunderbird on my laptop - point it to my desktop - and read emails from that database. I would also like to send emails from my laptop as well as the desktop. Set up your account as IMAP on both, desktop, and laptop. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization#w_benefits-of-imap
