Three days ago I switched from using Outlook (more than 20 years) to Thunderbird. This transition went very smoothly - in minutes I had my two accounts functional.

A day after this switch, Thunderbird started to misbehave - it freezes nearly all the time, to the point that it becomes a major pain (typing a new email is not echoed to the screen for the duration of this freeze, but luckily it does not get lost). Each such freeze results in increased CPU time (I am running Windows 10 Task manager to see what is going on).

There are a lot of similar issues reported on Internet - none of these questions are answered in any meaningful way.

My computer is an HP mini-desktop with i7-7700 260 GHz CPU, 32GB memory, 1GB SSD - I never had any freezing issue with Outlook.

Anyone with a suggestion that will save me from returning to Outlook ?

What is your anti-virus software?

I have two - Microsoft Defender and GridinSoft's Anti-Malware. I did not find any issues related to a possible conflict between these two.

There were a few articles mentioning the need to change the settings for these two anti-virus application, to ensure that they tolerate Thunderbird, but I could not find such settings. It seems that Thunderbird should not trigger antivirus into action.

While waiting for some help from the forum, I installed Em client and found it significantly better than any email client I ever tried. So, I do not think I will go back to Thunderbird unless there is a problem with Em I am not aware of.
