After upgrading Firefox it says the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program when I try to log on with the fingerprint scanner - how do I fix this please?

I have an HP laptop with a fingerprint scanner (HP Simple Pass Identity Protection) which I've used for a year now with no problems. Yesterday I upgraded Firefox to the latest version and now when I try to log on to sites with the scanner I get the message "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program."

In both Facebook and GMail, the ID program fails to recognise the log on pages as such and so won't register my fingerprint with them. This has never been a problem before, only since this last upgrade of Firefox. How do I fix it please, or alternatively, how do I go back to the previous version?

Thanks
